I logged into this website randomly (looking for MLP base references of all things, FOR REASONS), and I found that people are still finding and leaving comments on my stuff, some not so nice (well, at least this aspect of DeviantArt has not changed over a decade+), some very sweet and encouraging, even if most of the submissions I have up here are pretty old and no longer meet my own quality standards.

If you still want to stay in touch, you may find me at the links below (most of my accounts are private/logged-in user only for personal safety reasons, as I am at a point in life where avoiding getting doxxed is more of a concern than not getting enough exposure).

Sometimes I forget to submit my new art here because the thought of how little feedback it will receive makes me go, 'Eh, what's the point?'.

I am much more active on Tumblr ( norroendyrd.tumblr.com/ ). I know that hellsite is prone to bringing out the worst in people - but then again, which site isn't? The people there often do not care about my art and fic just as the DeviantArt community - but what little interaction I get is still much more than here. Plus, it has the self-reblog feature, meaning that you can bump your content as many times as you like.

You can also add me on Discord (NorroenDyrd#0636). And if you know any fun Elder Scrolls-themed servers, please point them my way, because I am mostly part of Dragon Age-related discussions and miss the good old Tamriel!

I opened a PillowFort as well: www.pillowfort.social/NorroenD…

It's pretty slow at the moment, but the site is still in closed beta, so if it livens up, I will be more active there.

Furthermore, sometimes I randomly remember that I have a Twitter:

And if you wanna catch up on my fanfic, check out my AO3:

See you around!

Hello-hello! Hope everyone is having a wonderful summer, and not melting too much from the heat!

If any of my wonderful followers can spare a moment, I was wondering if you could please complete two short and (hopefully) fun surveys about linguistic and cultural references (mostly manifested via puns) in TV series and video games.

I am researching the subject for my grad thesis in uni, and conducting a linguistic experiment with data collected from real-life people is considered Top Chic ™.

Note how any personal questions (like your age group and education level) are made completely optional, so you don’t have to disclose even that info about yourself if you don’t want to; and all the final data will be anonymized and non-personally identifiable.

The TV series poll is here:

The video game poll is here:

Thank you in advance for your help! <3

On my Tumblr blog, I often fill in the 'post X facts about your OC' memes - and I have recently realized that I have not shared them here on dA for a while.

So here are the last few memes I did, in bulk!

Facts about Inquisitor Maaras Adaar (Dragon Age: Inquisition):

1. Maraas is the son of two Ashaad warriors (one of them was an aqun athlok, but I don’t think I am ever gonna specify who on purpose) that fled the Qun after one of them got the asala-taar similar to Bull but was too frightened to hand himself in to the reeducators, and the other could not bear leaving his side. They call themselves Ash and Aad now, since fitting in among the basra requires different names.

2. Despite loathing the idea of having to join Ash and Aad’s mercenary company when he came of age and even running away from home to avoid it, Maaras still ended up becoming a sellsword (just a lonesome one instead of part of a group) because he has never learned another trade. At least travelling on various jobs has allowed him to discover his true passion - cartography.

3. Since Maaras’ design was somewhat inspired by Teldryn Sero from Skyrim, he might have similar stories to share about his various employers (such as a bloodthirsty fellow that loved provoking bandits on purpose).

4. For a brief time, Maaras genuinely believed that he was the one who had caused the Conclave explosion:  he has been suppressing his magic all his life, posing as a swordsman instead, so he was more than ready to conclude that his pent-up arcane energy had finally burst out of control.

5. Similar to Solas (a.k.a Fen'Harel), the name Maaras, which means both One and Nothing in Qunlat, is an insult (or rather, warning) he took as a badge of pride. After this name was given to him by Ash and Aad during their parting argument - as a reminder that he won’t make it on his own - he started mentally referring to himself as that out of spite and stubborness (sort of, ‘Yes, I am nothing, but watch me survive’), while publically introducing himself as ‘Martin’ in an attempt to pass as a human. Maaras will talk about how he embraced his name when he meets Ash and Aad again (which will happen in Sarhnia, where the mercenaries had stopped by on their way to stalk a dragon, but ended up mired in the quarry mess).

Facts about Dragonborn Tisha Marissius (Skyrim):

1. She gets a mini-panic attack when someone calls her by her full name, Laetitia, as it usually implies they are angry with her.

2. The one time she did something mean/petty was when her father considered doing a ‘favour’ of returning to her mother (after abandoning their family), and Tisha told him, with the straightest look on her face, ‘Actually, she has a new wife now’. She felt awful about it later, but her friends reassured her that she was in the right.

3. She sincerely mourns every humanoid enemy she has to kill, and I think I am going to headcanon her getting out of various situations unviolently as often as possible.

4. Kharjo is her stepbrother on her new Khajiit mom’s side, and often acts as a ‘straight-man’ for her lighthearted, trusting behaviour.

5. She and her love Erandur are total saps for mutual hair-petting.

Facts about Inquisitor Kulak Cadash (Dragon Age: Inquisition):

1. He is originally from the Warrior Caste, and has a different birth name, which he has not used since he was about eighteen. Back then, he was given his very first important mission - to escort a dwarven merchant and his apprentice, who had come over from Tevinter to conclude a business transaction, back home through the Deep Roads. Before they left, the merchant offered to share a bottle of rare topside brandy; and while the apprentice, who never could resist human drinks, eagerly downed his helping, Kulak, who was young and still quite disgusted by the taste of alcohol, only took a polite sip. Which ended up saving his life, because when they were way into the Deep Roads, the apprentice toppled over, groaning: the merchant, who had begun to suspect that the poor fellow had gotten wind of some of his shady dealings, had spiked the brandy with a slow-acting poison, supplied by dubious sources in Tevinter. Kulak, having barely drunk anything, only felt slightly woozy, which the merchant took advantage of by knocking him out with a rock. When Kulak came to, he found his weapon gone, and his and the apprentice’s bodies sprinkled generously with another Tevinter concoction, designed to attract hundreds of deep stalkers. Kulak kept the creatures at bay as best he could with his bare fists, until he was rescued by a gang of lyrium smugglers - on the condition that he would join them (which, being still in shock, he agreed to).

2. Due to the above, Kulak is still secretly afraid of deep stalkers. All other creatures, however, seem to instinctively gravitate towards him, seeking his protection.

3. Nor has he grown too fond of alcohol, being quite a moderate social drinker - not only because of the brandy incident, but also because he is afraid that intoxication will make him violent. In reality, however, he is a sad, weepy drunk rather than a mean drunk.

4. During his time with the Carta, Kulak not only guarded lyrium shipments and intimidated malcontents, but also fought in the boxing ring, with his new ‘family’ claiming all his prize earnings.

5. He kind of misses his birth family, but is too ashamed to contact them and explain that he has not, in fact, been torn apart by deep stalkers. Josephine might change his mind on that, though.

Facts about Vestige Ihlen gro-Dres (Elder Scrolls: Online):

1. While a Dark Elf in-game, he is half-Orc on his father’s side, which manifests in him having yellow eyes and a greenish skin tone. Because of his heritage, I would like to have him experience both the Ebonheart Pact and Daggerfall Covenant sides of the storyline, so that he visits some places important to either parent’s culture.

2. His parents died when he was little of an as of yet unknown cause (Knahaten Flu? Not sure if the timeline fits), and he spent his childhood hanging around the household of a wealthy slave-owning Dark Elven family of House Dres, where his maternal grandfather was overseer. At one point, the family’s daughter, Velsa, freed the slaves, and Ihlen’s grandfather lost his livelihood, turning from an empowered sadist to a helplessly bitter one - albeit still dangerous to a small child, especially one of ‘marred’ heritage. Ihlen lost his eye when his grandfather threw a bottle at him in a drunken rage.

3. Few know this fact about Ihlen, however, so the people he has been meeting in adulthood come up with all sorts of insane scenarios as to why he has one eye. He never comments on any of these speculations, though. He talks in monosyllables in general.

4. Due to Ihlen’s imposing height and built, he is mostly hired as a bruiser/bodyguard, but his preferred jobs are those of kennel master or stable hand.

5. He has a great talent for ice magic, which first manifested when he was soothing bruises inflicted on him by his grandfather. He has not reached his full potential as a mage so far, and most of his spells are self-taught from solitary practice.

6. He owns a horse, promised to him before it was even born (of the mare he used to care for), and eventually bequeathed to him in the will by an old Redguard nobleman who found him very handsome and occasionally spoiled him with treats. He would have left Ihlen even more, but his ‘proper’ heirs objected.

7. Ihlen also has a cat, whom he named Toasty because she warms him up by snuggling on his feet as they travel.

8. Even though he is long since dead, Ihlen’s grandfather keeps haunting him as a ghost, because he wants him to exact revenge on Velsa, the woman who freed the slaves and whom the blighter blames for his misfortune. And as Velsa is actually a NPC from the Thieves Guild, Ihlen has not only failed to 'exact revenge’ but actually befriended her (well, as much as that is possible with Velsa, who kind of prefers plants to people). This has made the hauntings even worse, eventually driving Ihlen to search for some priest or mage who might put his grandfather at rest. Unfortunately, the said 'mage’ turned out to be a Worm Cultist.

I have already come up with a whole whopping bunch content for a non-canon-compliant worldstate in Dragon Age: Inquisition, where Magister Alexius travels back in time to the Conclave and accidentally gets branded with the Anchor instead of Herald Nadia Trevelyan - so I figured that this AU deserves its very own masterpost! Hope you enjoy the weirdness! :D

Important ThingsHe has a lot of important things to do, that middle-aged mage that some people call the Herald of Andraste.
He always grows tense when he hears the word 'Herald': that awestruck whisper, blown into his face like an autumn leaf. And then he starts, as if a literal leaf has slapped him with its slightly soggy, rain-dampened edges. But few people can help holding the word back, not with the rumours that have been going around.
About how, just as he staggered out of the Fade, tugged at impatiently by another mage, a sharp-faced, green-eyed girl with a fresh burn scar, there was also another female figure right behind him, a blurred silhouette flickering through the tear in the protective Veil between worlds. And about how regal that figure seemed, head carried high and adorned with what some described as an enormous, blazing white tiara. And about how that scarred girl, who has an unmage-like fondness for keeping her body honed and her arms capable of lifting up a sword or drawing back the

Drowning in Guilt - pt.1The crypt looks as if it were plunged underwater - into the dark, icy ocean that supposedly stretches out all the way south, towards horizons unknown.
The scarce wall-mounted lamps are powered by mage fire. An undying cold flame that colours everything beneath these massive stone vaults into various shades of blue, from the pale splashes that streak down the sides of the urns nearest to the light sources, to the inky swirls that brew within the niches along the walls, with the chiseled, haughtily indifferent visages of age-old statues peering through these swirls like faces of drowned men.
He shudders as he moves slowly from lantern to lantern - the only human figure not carved out of blue-tinted marble, in robes that flow freely with his motions, rather than fall in heavy, frozen folds of polished stone, with the traditional sculptured serpents crawling up them from hem to sleeve, forever stuck in the same coiling position. His features bear some resemblance to the drowned statues: th

Letters From People Who Should Not Be ThereRoy,
I don't know if I will ever send this. You are supposed to be in hiding, after all. I would hate it if my letter turned into a clue for people who should not be allowed to find you. And being in Orlais has only made me more paranoid if anything. I keep seeing scheming, spying players of this game of theirs round every corner.
Not that I am not grateful to you for reaching out to Madame Vivienne and asking her to take me under her wing! You are right: she is not that scary if you get to know her, and I always feel sheepish when I recollect how I little short of hid behind your and Aveline's backs when you introduced me to her! She seed to find it amusing, though.
She remembers you fondly from Château Haine, by the way! Says it was very inspiring to see another Marcher come from nothing and use his wealth and influence to help people. Not that there's anything left of that now. But I am not bitter, Maker forbid - we have done this before. We have been brought low, so so many ti

Meanwhile in Redcliffe - pt. 1At first, the Fade was its usual shade of green, deep as the algae-tinted waters of a still, stagnant pool, lapping against a lone bed with a dreamer curled up on it. And if the Fade was a pool, that made the bed a pebble, tossed into the waves to be gulped down and carried off, a tiny speck of white amid the swirling green nothingness.
But then, as it floated on and on, seemingly without direction or purpose, the colour of the ethereal currents that flowed all around it began to change, streaks of fiery orange slashing through the rippling green and creating a bright, shimmering aura that gradually enveloped the hovering bed in a flaring bubble.
That could be a reflection of the fever the dreamer was obviously having: his pallid face almost blended in with the fresh linen, and there were rivulets of sweat running down his neck, marking his skin with a sticky glisten like the trails of a crawling slug. The bubble could have been moulded by the spirits trying to respond to the heavy, co

Benevolence to Lies - pt. 1Cassandra is never without a partner to keep her swordfighting skills honed. And no, she is not counting those flimsy training dummies that burst under her strikes by the dozen, the straw peeking out of their ruptured seams like Varric's chest hair (the dwarf finds it unnerving, and serves him right).
Sometimes, she spars with Cullen; sometimes, with Ser Blackwall; Bull often needs hitting as well - with a thick, sturdy baton rather than a sword, though.
As per some odd Qunari custom, it is usually not as much for melee practice as for distracting him from the things that occupy his mind. And those things know no measure. Bull is, after all, a giant grey mother hen for a band of misfits, which has recently been joined by none other than the hapless mage son of Eamon Guerrin (the boy was among the rebels in Redcliffe, and after seeing him have a hard time in battle, Bull took him under his proverbial wing).
She crosses blades with Alistair, too - another addition to the ranks that they

Led AstrayShe starts out with her blade against his throat, her face a distorted mask, bobbing in the inky pool of the dungeon, ruddy with both torchlight and barely contained rage. Her steel carves a hair-thin line in his flesh - but Maker knows, she is ready to plunge it deeper. Because the man before her is a vile heretic, a member of a Tevinter cult - who, by his own resigned, sigh-like admission, helped the murderers of the Most Holy, and would have kept helping them had his twisted maleficar magic not backfired at him.
She starts out with her blade against his throat, while their gazes lock in, with barely a blink, two pairs of brown eyes boring into one another, their irises blending into a glaring orange and an aggressive red as they reflect the torches’ flame… And then, there comes a flare of acid green, ripping a contrasting gash through the rusty, reddish hues of their surroundings. A reminder that, much as she loathes this devious blood mage, he - according to the Inquisi
