Warden - Thraer Aeducan

A scholar with an almost encyclopedic knowledge of his world's lore, and a constant desire to acquire more knowledge, this dwarf is calm, courteous and reserved, very meticulous about any research he does into any subject. Quite naturally, it was only to appease his noble house that this bookish recluse accepted the post of military commander offered to him by his father. But even despite his un-Baruk-Khazad-ey personality, he still managed to become the most popular of the three Aeducan siblings, thanks to his ability to settle arguments (in terms of gameplay, a lot of precious experience points went into upgrading his Persuasion perks, and just as back at home, he found himself capable of sitting down just about every warring faction at the negotiations table, even the elves and the werewolves).

His brother's betrayal came as a great shock to Thraer - and in order to escape from painful memories, he withdrew even further into his studies, deriving much enjoyment from expanding his horizons during his travels on the surface. Interestingly enough, one of his other methods of calming his nerves, apart from burying his nose in an ancient tome or going through every dialogue option to learn more about his companions and the lands that he visits, is brewing potions and constructing elaborate traps. However, what interests him is the process and its immediate outcome; he soon casts aside all of his creations, not really caring for what happens to them afterwards - usually his potions and contraptions would end up being used by other party members. During his adventuring days, he had the same detached, scientific approach to combat, treating it as a sort of a major experiment (come on, tissues tearing, bones breaking - lovely science class material, isn't it?).

As a dedicated researcher, he allowed himself only one distraction: the company of the lovely Morrigan (who had had quite a jaw-dropping effect on him even when they first met). He did not permit her to go through with the Dark Ritual, however, and it was only Loghain’s poetic self-sacrifice that saved his dwarven hide. Thus, the son he and the witch had together is a regular half-human, half-dwarven boy, whom Thraer loves dearly – which may earn him future resentment from his other son, whom he had with a noble-hunter woman back in Orzammar (he just could not think of a way to escape her persistent advances). Thraer acknowledged the boy, and allowed him to be accepted into his own noble caste, just as the crafty Mardy had intended, but while he is making sure that the child does not want for anything, he does not give him nearly as much personal attention as he does to Kieran. I sense a potential Shakespearean drama brewing up!

Champion - Donalbain Hawke

Big and huggable, this long-haired, bearded fellow (who in my mind speaks with a Scottish accent) likes to show off his strength just as much as he likes protecting the innocent. His huge greatsword (which he alone seems to be capable of lifting) is always ready to cleave through the bad guys… However, sometimes Hawke finds trouble determining who those bad guys actually are.

Much as he wishes to rid the world of evil, it would have been far easier if everything was black-and-white – which it is not. He knows only too well how far a mage can go if his or her heart is tainted by evil, and yet his precious baby sister is a mage, and he absolutely dotes on her (missing her every day when she goes off to become a Grey Warden); he wants to believe that the Templars are there to restore justice and order, and yet he sees them indiscriminately destroy everyone who dares to stand in their way; he has always thought that blood magic and communing with demons is the gravest sin that there is, and yet he cannot help falling in love with the most adorable blood mage ever.

On the last account, however, he is slightly more certain what to do and which choices to make than in other cases: he does his utmost to keep Merrill away from the accursed mirror, and saves her clan from destruction. At the same time, he feels for the rebel mages and their plight, and does his utmost to help Anders… only to find out, in the very end, that his healer friend took advantage of his kindness to commit an atrocious act. Acknowledging the wrong he has done, Anders is ready to accept death – which Hawke grants him; blinded by shock, grief, and anger, he swings down his trusty sword before he can stop himself… and then weeps for his friend, bathed in his blood. For this, he will never be able to forgive himself.

Inquisitor - Taashath Adaar (plus Asala Adaar)

Once upon a time, when this gruff, one-horned veteran (whom Varric affectionately nicknames Fluffy because of his poofy blonde beard) was young and foolhardy, he got involved with a runaway elven apostate who was taken in by his mercenary company. She had a baby daughter, but did not survive the ordeal of labour - because a huge half-Qunair bairn proved too much for those poor narrow elven hips.

The girl, named Asala, grew up among mercenaries and became the proverbial apple of her father’s stern but caring eye. Eager to prove herself as a warrior, she has been tagging along with Taashath everywhere, including on the Conclave, where she, already a spunky teenager at the time, tried to pick up the orb that rolled towards her (‘Oooooh, shiny!’). The terrified daddy pushed her out of the way, getting the Mark in the process, and they both ended up in the Fade, chased by spiders, rescued by a mysterious glowing woman, and stumbling out in the middle of a ruined temple.

In fact, initially, Asala was supposed to be the one to get the Mark, but then I decided that I could not put someone so young through so much drama, with constant mortal danger and eventual disfigurement. And in the end, instead of becoming a Harry-Potter-esque teen Inquisitor, she got demoted to being a constant thorn in the Inquisitor’s side.

Thus, while Taashath is away on Inquisitorial business, Asala usually stays behind (but even with no Mark, she keeps trying to be a hero in her own right - usually when she is bored, which happens pretty often; as a result, Dadquisitor has to abandon everything and rescue the foolish child). She enjoys being around both Sera (pranks galore!) and Cole, whom she tries to get interested in various types of teenage entertainment.  In due time, Taashath will decide to let Cole become more human, and during/after Trespasser, a slightly more grown-up Asala and the ex-spirit boy will develop romantic feelings towards each other.

The girl also instinctively seeks shelter under Cassandra’s wing, much to the latter’s confusion, and devises various schemes to bring her together with her father (which will eventually work), as she loves them both so dearly and wishes them to smile more often. I imagine that some time in the future, the odd little family will also be supplemented by a baby brother, despite Taashath’s anguish over what happened to his first sweetheart… Because like Varric, I love seeing Cassandra embarrassed – and this will sound really funny if you know Spanish. Probably.
Here are some combos of characters that I use in my Dragon Age games - which, as many of you know, follow a very consistent plotline that tightly interconnects the events of the entire franchise. These are not all the combos that I have, however - as I absolutely adore the character creator in Inquisition, and have at least one or two characters per every love interest, the number of my Inquisitors exceeds the number of Wardens and Champions, so some of them have to 'share'. If there is any interest (haha, look how hilariously naive I am!), I will post all the extra Inquisitors separately.
